piano

well...we tracked some real piano tracks! it was sure a lot of fun. My mother owns a very nice piano and it sits in a room with extremely high ceilings. Her piano sounds great and Daren loves it. So all we had to do was ask. I asked her if we would be able to use her piano and when would we be able to kick everyone out of the house to have it quiet. Well my parents were out of town this past weekend and so bewteen the 2 of us, Daren and I set up a nice recording rig and went to work. We tracked multiple songs and parts for songs that already had pianos done using keyboards. The sound we got was very classic. We used 2 ribbon microphones inside the piano and 2 akg 414s placed in the room.

It was a successful weekend that ended earlier than we had hoped. But we got the main stuff done and it sounds great.

drums for what we've become

Well we will be tracking drums for the latest song..what we've become. What we've become is a song about how horrible people are to each other. It is not a positive song. It is angry and all about disappointment. The song is driven by some really great guitar riffs and makes me want to stomp my feet as I march around listening to it with my headphones on.
Daren and I spent a couple of weeks putting the song together the way we wanted, tracking some guitars and setting up the samples. Joel said he would record the drums to it this Saturday and then when that is done will start on a new song. It will be fun to do it with all three of us there.

We finally chose a name for our band. Souls for Silver.

This blog is to document the recording of the record and the forming of band. We started out as two people who enjoy music and writing songs together. Daren Johnson and Brett Kocherhans are both from SLC, UT and have been playing music for a long time. We have since included Joel Burkhart into the process to play drums, and samples for us...and of course to help us with the songwriting process.
